| Resumo | This paper presents results concerning the macroscopic behaviour of a pulsed vacuum arc discharge beteween an axial rounded tip cathode and a semi-transparent metallic mesh as anode. The geometry enables the production of a fully ionized plasma column, composed of the cathode material, that expanding through the mesh, can be used for thin film deposition of metallic elements, reactive deposition, isotope or element separation, and others. Attention is given to the dependence of the arc current, pulse duration and energy transferred from the capacitor bank to the plasma upon the initial voltage (30-90V), external axial magnetic field (0-0,2T) electrode gap (6-12cm) and cathode material (Mg, Xn, Cd, Pb). | |||
